Go to the Park

Chuck wanted to go to the park after dinner. His mom wanted him to stay home after dinner. She didn’t want him to go to the park. She said it was dark at the park. But Chuck said it wasn’t dark at the park. "There are lights at the park, Mom," he said. But she said there were only a few lights at the park. She said there were many dark places in the park. "Bad people go to the park at night," she said. "Bad people do bad things. They do bad things to good people. You are a good person. I don’t want something bad to happen to you." Chuck said, "Nothing bad will happen to me. I will go with my two friends. We will be together. All three of us will be together. We will stay away from the dark places. We will stay under the lights."

Tired All the Time

She was 40. She was tired. She felt tired all the time. She went to the doctor. The doctor asked, "What’s the matter? What’s your problem?" She said, "I’m tired. I feel tired all the time." The doctor examined her. The doctor asked her a lot of questions. The doctor asked for a blood sample. He took some blood from her arm. The doctor asked for a urine sample. He told her to pee in a cup. A week later, the doctor called her. He said, "Your samples are okay. There is nothing wrong with you. You are tired because you don’t exercise. You need to exercise. Take a walk every day. Ride a bike every day. Walk up stairs every day. If you exercise, you won’t feel tired." She didn’t believe her doctor. She didn’t exercise. If I exercise, she thought, I will feel even more tired.

He Forgot Again

He Hates Carrots

"Eat your vegetables, Mikey," Mom said. "I am eating my vegetables," Mikey said. He was eating the sliced carrots. He was eating the sliced carrots one by one. He was eating them one at a time. He picked up one sliced carrot with his fork. He looked at it. He slowly put it in his mouth. He slowly chewed it. Finally, he swallowed it. Then he drank some water. Then he picked up another sliced carrot with his fork. Mom watched him. "Why do you hate vegetables, Mikey?" He said, "I don’t hate vegetables. I hate carrots." "Why do you hate carrots?" Mom asked. "Because they don’t taste good," Mikey said. "But they are good for you," Mom said. "They are good for your eyes. They help you to see well. Don’t you want to see well?" "Not if I have to see carrots," Mikey said.

Biography of Imam Khomeini

1.Childhood and Parents

Imam Khomeini was born in the town of Khomein, about 350 kms south of Tehran in the central province, on the 20th of Jamadi-Al-Thani, the year 1320 L.H.,(September 24, 1902). Also the birth anniversary of Fatima Zahra, the daughter of Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him). He was named Ruhollah. The spirit of God.

His father, Ayatollah Seyyed Mostafa Musavi, assumed the religious leadership of the people of Khomein and the nearby villages after his return from the Islamic theology center in the city of Najaf, Iraq. But only a few months after Ruhollah was born, his father was fatally wounded by bandits on the road to Arak, north of Khomein. He was 47.

Imam Khomeini`s mother, Hajar, was also of a prominent religious family. She was the daughter of an Ayatollah Mirza Ahmad, a scholar and teacher in Karbala and Najaf theological centers, in Iraq. She also passed away when the Imam was only 15.

2. Education

Despite these personal disasters, the Imam remained resistant and began using his talent and intelligence in learning Islamic sciences --first under his brother, Ayatollah Seyyed Morteza Pasandideh. Later he went to the theological school in Arak where he attended the classes of the prominent scholar of his time, Haj Sheikh Abdulkarim Haeri Yazdi. He also mastered Arabic literature.

After top theologians moved from Arak to the holy city of Qom, the Imam intensified his studies and completed the highest level of theology by 1927, and soon later was pronounced a mujtahid, qualified jurist, by his senior tutors. He specialized in various fields other than Fiqh (jurisprudence), including Philosophy, Irfan and Ethics.

3. Political Life before 1963

Known for his strong political views against the regime, the security agents of Reza Khan, the founder of the Pahlavi dynasty, were ordered to restrict the Imam"s activities. But the Imam continued his gradual but firm effort to spread his enlightening message to masses.

After the death of Ayatollah Borujerdi, the paramount shia leader of the time, the Imam was chosen his successor by the Ulema and people. With this, his cultural Jihad against the monarchy gathered momentum in 1961, reaching a climax in 1963.

4. Uprising

On June 3rd of that year the Imam made a historical speech against the dependence of the Shah"s regime on foreign powers and its support of the Israel. He also stressed on the role of the Ulema in society.

The Imam was immediately arrested on June 5th. But his powerful speech brought the people of Qom out into the streets. News reached other cities and for two days people in several major cities including Tehran, demonstrated against the Shah and in support of the Imam.

On June 5th, troops supported by tank were deployed crush the growing movement. Many are massacre and the Shah"s dictatorial regime appeared to have achieved victory. But the seed of the Islamic Revolution had been planted.

5. In Exile 4/11/1964-3/10/1978

Following the Imam"s arrest, the regime came under sever pressure from the Ulema and the massage. On November 4th, the Imam was sent into exile. He was first deported to Turkey and then to Iraq where he took up residence in Najaf.

Still determined to act according to his religious responsibility the Imam escalated his political struggle. This further added to the religious and political awareness and maturity of the Iranian people that was demonstrated by their angry and massive response to the murder of Haj Mostafa Khomeini, the Imam"s eldest son, in the winter o f1977 by the agents of the Shah"s secret police, the Savak.

The martyrdom of Haj Mostafa, as well as an insulting article printed in the daily Ettela`at on Savak`s order, prompted mourning a protest gathering in major cities. Many people were killed in demonstrations and the regime decided that the only way to calm the situation was to prevent the Imam"s inspirational message reach the people.

The Shah demanded and received cooperation from the Iraqi regime and the Imam was expelled on 3 October 1978.

6. Migration (Oct. 3, 1978-Feb. 1, 1979)

Imam Khomeini set out for Kuwait on October 3rd 1978 but was denied entry by the government. After consulting with his son, Ahamad, the Imam decided to go to France where he arrived on October 5th and a few days later took up residence in the small village of Neuphle le Chateau.

In Iran mass protests against the regime and the continued exile of the Imam grew to such an extent that it become impossible to control and suppress completely.

The Imam made frequent speeches, sent messages to the Iranian nation, gave numerous interviews to the media, outlining the liberation- seeking values and ideas of Islam and explained the framework of the Islamic state based on divine justice.

The ruling regime was facing a serious crisis. The West forced the Shah to leave Iran to allow the newly formed "liberal" Bakhtiar government to gain legitimacy in the eyes of the people. But the Imam still held the initiative: he was determined to return to Iran. The nation prepared for the greatest home coming ceremony in history. The Imam left Paris for Tehran on 1 February 1979.

Too Many Prisoners

Prisons today have too many prisoners. The prisoners sleep in bunk beds. They sleep in triple bunk beds. Triple bunk beds are for three prisoners. One prisoner sleeps in the bottom bunk bed. Another prisoner sleeps in the middle bunk bed. Another prisoner sleeps in the top bunk bed. They sleep on top of one another. They sleep beneath one another. Prisoners complain about the triple bunk beds. They don’t like the triple bunk beds. Prisons didn’t use to have bunk beds. Prisons didn’t use to have any beds. Prisoners used to sleep on a cold floor. Prisoners today get three meals a day. They get three hot meals. Prisoners used to get one meal a day. They used to get one cold meal.

The Wrong Train

Carol said they must leave early. They were going to the airport. They were going to JFK airport. "We must leave two hours early," she said. "You never know what can go wrong." "What can go wrong?" Clint asked. "We get on the train. We take the train to JFK airport. Nothing can go wrong." "Of course something can go wrong," she said. "Something can always go wrong." They left two hours early. They got on the wrong train. They didn’t know they were on the wrong train. The train made many stops. Finally, it got to the last stop. Everyone got off the train. "This isn’t JFK airport. Where are we?" Carol asked another passenger. The passenger said they were on the wrong train. "We are on the wrong train!" she yelled at Clint. "It’s a good thing we left two hours early," Clint said.

Al-Hasan Ibn 'Ali al-'Askari - Peace be Upon him

Name: al-Hasan
Title: al-'Askari
Agnomen: Abu Muhammad
Father's name: 'Ali- al - Hadi ( an- Naqi )
Mother's name: Hadithah (or Susan)
Birth: In Medina, on Friday, 8th Rabi'u 'th-thani 232 AH.
Death: Died at the age of 28, in Samarra', on Friday, 8th Rabl'u 'l-awwal 260 AH; poisoned by al-Mu'tamid, the Abbasid ruler; buried in Samarra' (Iraq)

The Holy Imam Hasan al-'Askari spent twenty-two years of his life under the patronage of his father, Imam 'Al; al-Had; (an-Naqi) after whose martyrdom he became his divinely commissioned Imam. Imam Hasan ibn 'Ali al-'Askari, the son of the Tenth Imam, was born in 232/845 and according to some Shl'ite sources was poisoned and killed in 260/872 through the instigation of the 'Abbasid caliph al-Mu'tamid.
The Eleventh Imam gained the Imamate, after the death of his noble father, through Divine Command and through the decree of the previous Imams. During the seven years of his Imamate, due to untold restrictions placed upon him by the caliphate, he lived in hiding and dissimulation (taqiyyah) He did not have any social contact with even the common people among the Shi'ite population. Only the elite of the Shi'ah were able to see him. Even so, he spent most of his time in prison. There was extreme repression at that time because the Shi'ite population had reached a considerable level in both numbers and power. Everyone knew that the Shi'ah believed in the Imamate, and the identity of the Shi'ite Imams was also known.
Therefore, the caliphate kept the Imams under its close supervision more than ever before. It tried through every possible means and through secret plans to remove and destroy them. Also, the caliphate had come to know that the elite among the Shi'ah believed that the Eleventh Imam, according to traditions cited by him as well as his forefathers, would have a son who was the promised Mahdi. The coming of the Mahdi had been foretold in authenticated hadith of the Prophet in both Sunni and Shi'ite sources. For this reason the Eleventh Imam, more than other Imams, was kept under close watch by the caliphate.
The caliph of the time had decided definitely to put an end to the Imamate in Shi'ism through every possible means and to close the door to the Imamate once and for all. Therefore, as soon as the news of the illness of the Eleventh Imam reached al-Mu'tamid, he sent a physician and a few of his trusted agents and judges to the house of the Imam to be with him and observe his condition and the situation within his house at all times. After the death of the Imam, they had the house investigated and all his female slaves examined by the midwife. For two years the secret agents of the caliph searched for the successor of the Imam until they lost all hope.
The Eleventh Imam was buried in his house in Samarra' next to his noble father. Here it should be remembered that during their life time the Imams trained many hundreds of scholars of religion and hadith, and it is these scholars who have transmitted to us information about the Imams. In order not to prolong the matter, the list of their names and works and their biographies have not been included here.
al-Imam al-Hasan al-'Askari, peace be Upon him, said:
Generosity has a limit, which when crossed becomes extravagance; caution has a limit which when crossed becomes cowardice; thriftiness has a limit, which when crossed becomes miserliness; courage has a limit, which when crossed becomes fool-hardiness. Let this moral lesson suffice: refrain from doing anything which you would disapprove of if done by someone else.

He Will Go to Heaven

Adam was doing his homework. He stopped doing his homework. He was bored. He didn’t like homework. "Dad, what happens when we die?" Adam asked. "You will go to heaven," Dad said. "Does everyone go to heaven?" Adam asked. "No, only good people go to heaven," Dad said. "What is heaven like?" Adam asked. "It is a happy place," Dad said. "Everyone is happy. Everyone is your friend. Everyone likes you. You like everyone." He told Adam to be polite. He told Adam to be honest. "If you are polite and honest, you will go to heaven," Dad said. Adam said, "I want to go to heaven. I will be polite and honest." Dad said there was one more thing. Adam had to do one more thing to go to heaven. "What’s that?" Adam asked. "If you want to go to heaven, you have to do your homework," Dad said.

Her Meow Book

Lulu couldn’t find her favorite book. Her favorite book was about a cat. The name of the cat was Meow. The name of the book was "How Is Meow?" Lulu asked her mom, "Mommy, where is my Meow book? Where is ‘How Is Meow?’” Her mom didn’t know. "Where did you leave it? Do you remember where you left it?" Lulu didn’t remember. "I don’t remember," she said. They looked in the kitchen. They looked in the living room. They looked in the bedroom. They couldn’t find her favorite book. That night Lulu got ready for bed. She brushed her teeth. She put on her pajamas. She got into bed. She put her hand under her pillow. She felt something under her pillow. "Mommy," she yelled. "I found my book. I found ‘How Is Meow?" It was under my pillow. Come read it to me, please."

Surely Allah is the Creator and Nourisher

Winter in many parts of the world is extremely severe and the temperature is even below freezing levels. People live in warm houses and wear heavy coats outside. But what happens to the animals?

MIGRATE

Animals do many different, amazing things to get through the winter. Some of them "migrate." This means they travel to other places where the weather is warmer or they can find food.

Many birds migrate in the fall. Because the trip can be dangerous, some travel in large flocks. For example, geese fly in noisy, "V"-shaped groups. Other kinds of birds fly alone.

How do they know when it is time to leave for the winter? Scientists are still studying this. Many see migration as part of a yearly cycle of changes a bird goes through. The cycle is controlled by changes in the amount of daylight and the weather.

Birds can fly very long distances. For example, the Arctic tern nests close to the North Pole in the summer. In autumn, it flys south all the way to Antarctica. Each spring it returns north again.

Most birds migrate shorter distances. But how do they find their way to the same place each year? Birds seem to navigate like sailors once did, using the sun, moon and stars for direction. They also seem to have a compass in their brain for using the Earth's magnetic field.

Other animals migrate, too. There are a few mammals, like some bats, caribou and elk, and whales that travel in search of food each winter. Many fish migrate. They may swim south, or move into deeper, warmer water.

Insects also migrate. Some butterflies and moths fly very long distances. For example, Monarch butterflies spend the summer in Canada and the Northern U.S. They migrate as far south as Mexico for the winter. Most migrating insects go much shorter distances. Many, like termites and Japanese beetles, move downward into the soil. Earthworms also move down, some as far as six feet below the surface.

ADAPT

Some animals remain and stay active in the winter. They must adapt to the changing weather. Many make changes in their behavior or bodies. To keep warm, animals may grow new, thicker fur in the fall. On weasels and snowshoe rabbits, the new fur is white to help them hide in the snow.

Food is hard to find in the winter. Some animals, like squirrels, mice and beavers, gather extra food in the fall and store it to eat later. Some, like rabbits and deer, spend winter looking for moss, twigs, bark and leaves to eat. Other animals eat different kinds of food as the seasons change. The red fox eats fruit and insects in the spring, summer and fall. In the winter, it can not find these things, so instead it eats small rodents.

Animals may find winter shelter in holes in trees or logs, under rocks or leaves, or underground. Some mice even build tunnels through the snow. To try to stay warm, animals like squirrels and mice may huddle close together.

Certain spiders and insects may stay active if they live in frost-free areas and can find food to eat. There are a few insects, like the winter stone fly, crane fly, and snow fleas, that are normally active in winter. Also, some fish stay active in cold water during the winter.
